Washington Redskins at Philadelphia Eagles Spread Pick
Opening Line: Philadelphia -4.5
Washington blew an early lead in a 34-27 defeat at the hands of Minnesota last Thursday. Philadelphia won for the second-straight week, a 27-13 pounding of Green Bay last Sunday. The Eagles won the Week 1 matchup 33-27.
The Redskins have been scoring a lot of points recently (31 ppg in last 4 games) and they are getting contributions from both the passing and running game. After a slow start, QB Robert Griffin III is completing nearly 61% of his throws and has a 12-9 TD/INT ratio. As his knee has gotten better, he has been able to scramble more and make plays on the move. RB Alfred Morris is also playing well and has rushed for 825 yards (5.2 ypc). While Philadelphia ranks 31st in pass defense, they have improved by leaps and bounds over the past month and a half. They have allowed 17.7 ppg over their last six contests compared to 27.5 in their first four. They are picking off more passes and forcing a lot more punts as well over the last six weeks. A solid pass rush has helped and they have gotten sacks from several different players.
The Eagles have averaged 480 yards of offense over the past two weeks and like Washington, are clicking on all cylinders. RB LeSean McCoy ran for 155 yards last week and is having a banner season (932 yards, 4.8 ypc). The Redskins did a good job of bottling up RB Adrian Peterson last week but have had their issues in run defense. However, the real culprit for Washington is their pass defense. They rank 26th in the league but have been especially inept late in games. They have been outscored 68-34 in the second half of their past three games and now face one of the hottest QBs in the league. QB Nick Foles has a sparkling 16-0 TD/INT ratio and has elevated the play of WR Riley Cooper. The wideout is 8-241-5 over the past two weeks and has topped 100 yards receiving in three of his past six starts. WR DeSean Jackson is having an All-Pro campaign and McCoy is a big threat out of the backfield.
ATS Game Pick
Both of these teams have proven they can score but Philadelphia has a big edge on the defensive side of the ball. They have allowed only two TDs in opponents last 10 trips to the red zone as the players have adjusted to Def. Co. Bill Davis' scheme. The Redskins have also been burned by special team's mistakes at very inopportune times. We'll side with Foles and the Eagles in this one as we expect their defense to put up a better showing than the Redskins.
