Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Miami Hurricanes Betting Pick

Betting Odds

Opening Line: Miami -7
Over/Under: 44

Time: 7 PM EST Saturday November 9, 2013 on ESPN / WatchESPN

Miami has to lick their wounds after last week's thrashing at the hands of Florida State. The loss to FSU was not only a costly one in the BCS standings, but in the game star RB Duke Johnson was lost for the season with a broken ankle. The Hurricanes do not face a ranked team for the rest of the season and if they run the table there is a good chance they can snag an at-large BCS berth.

After a 6 game winning streak after their season opening loss to top-ranked Alabama Virginia Tech has lost 2 straight to unranked teams. Last week they lost to a Boston College team that is 2-3 in ACC play and 4-4 overall. They could use a win in this game, as it would vastly improve the bowl they play in.

In their last games Miami lost to Florida State 41-14 and Virginia Tech lost to Boston College 34-27.

Virginia Tech is 3-5-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 2-6-1 and Miami is 4-4 ATS with an Over/Under record of 3-5.

Miami QB Stephen Morris had 192 passing yards in the loss to FSU with 2 TD, but he was picked off twice. In his last 4 games he has thrown 8 INT. WR Allen Hurns and Stacy Coley have combined for 7 TD and each is averaging over 16 yards per catch on the season. Tech has had their issues this season, but pass defense is not one of them with the top-ranked unit in the nation.

The Hokies do have the nation's 9th ranked run defense, but in the loss to Boston College they were tore up giving up 196 yards on the ground. The loss of Duke Johnson is a big blow for the Canes and the rushing offense will lean on Dallas Crawford, who has rushed for 294 yards with 9 TD this season.

Tech QB Logan Thomas has 6 INT in his last 2 games and those picks killed the Hokies. He has a solid WR corps, but the team has had problems in the red zone this season and his top 2 targets only have combined for 2 TD, Miami ranks 36th in the nation in pass defense and they have a good pass rush, but they gave up 325 passing yards in the loss to FSU.

Miami also gave up a ton of rushing yards last week against Florida State, but this week they face a Hokies team that only ranks 107th in the nation in rushing yards per game. Trey Edmonds is the lead RB and he has averaged less than 4 yards per carry this season and the 2nd leading rusher is QB Thomas, who is averaging 2.4 yards per carry.
