NCAA Kicks Off New Season

No one doubts that the off-season in football is way too long, but for those who are growing impatient of hearing training camp news, relief is on the way.

It's getting to the juicy part of NFL training camps, where starters see more than one series of action and better yet, the start of the college football regular season is approaching.

The NCAA Division I season kicks off with games starting on Thursday, August 30 and ending the following Monday.

Here are a couple of games to keep an eye on when the college schedule goes live, as well we take a look at few college games scheduled for later in the year that you can bet on right now.

Thursday, August 30, 2007

LSU @ Mississippi St.

08/30/07 LSU -18 (-110)
20:05 ET Mississippi St +18 (-110)

QB JaMarcus Russell is gone but LSU is still ranked in both the AP and USA Today polls as the second best team in the nation and some are predicting that they will be in the championship game in the New Year, which is a stark contrast to their opponents in Week 1, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a team that has averaged 3 wins a season the past three years. It looks like the Tigers will start off their march to the BCS title game on the right foot.

Saturday, September 1, 2007

Western Michigan @ West Virginia

09/01/07 W. Michigan +24 (-110)
15:30 ET W. Virginia -24 (-110)

All the talk going into the season has been about USC and LSU, but another team that hasn't been talked about as much, but is still one of the favorites to win it all is West Virginia.

QB Pat White is a running threat who passed for 14 TDs last season and ran in for 18 himself. The Western Michigan Broncos don't have expectations that are quite so high. Look for this West Virginia program to try and serve notice to the nation that they are a real championship caliber team.

NCAA Games of the Year

NCAA Week 1 lines aren't the only ones that are available for wagering. If you can't wait to bet on a big game matchup set for later in the season, well, you don't have to.

SPORTSBETTING.COM is offering lines for what have been termed the "Games of the Year" in college ball.

Do you like Notre Dame as a 10.5-point underdog in Michigan on Sept. 15th? How about Georgia as a +2.5-point dog at Tennessee in early October?

Have a look at the matchups and lines and see if something catches your eye.

Here are some thoughts on a few of the big games.

Saturday, September 15, 2007

Louisville @ Kentucky

9/15/07 Louisville -8.5 (even)
20:00 ET Kentucky +8.5 (-120)

Besides the rivalry aspect, it might seem a little odd that a top team from the Big East vs. a mediocre one from the SEC is listed on sportsbetting.com as a Game of the Year.

But not only will this one be a battle between Kentucky schools; it will pit two top notch QBs against one another as well.

Louisville QB Brian Brohm might have lost his head coach (Bobby Petrino) to the NFL, but that hasn't stopped the Heisman hype from heading his way.

Kentucky QB Andre' Woodson is an imposing presence in the pocket who passed for 31 TDs last year and only 7 INTs and was largely responsible for the Wildcats' ownership of the SEC's top-ranked passing attack.

There should be fireworks in this one.

Saturday, October 6, 2007

Oklahoma @ Texas

10/6/07 Oklahoma Even (110)
20:00 ET Texas Even (-110)

The Red River Shootout between Big 12 South rivals the Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns always garners attention from bettors and football fans alike.

Both schools are expected to be in the running for the Big 12 South.

Saturday, November 17, 2007

Ohio State @ Michigan

11/17/07 Ohio St +6.5 (-110)
20:00 ET Michigan -6.5 (-110)

With all due respect to Boise St., Oklahoma and the Fiesta Bowl, last year's tilt between Ohio State and Michigan at "The Horseshoe" was the best game of the year, if not the entire season (counting Bowl games as well).

It'll be hard to re-capture the magic this year as Ohio State lost a number of seniors including Heisman winning QB Troy Smith.

Still, Michigan's offense remains largely intact and you can bet the likes of Chad Henne, Mike Hart and Mario Manningham are still smarting from last year.

Chris Wells and Maurice Wells, who were key in Ohio State's win last year, are back with the Buckeyes.

As always, this should deliver as one of the best games of the college season.
