The Kansas Jayhawks will host No. 4 Texas this Saturday in Lawrence for what would be an upset victory for Kansas and a season crushing blow if the Longhorns were to fall on the road. Kansas has been shedding its “basketball school” reputation in the last couple of seasons by showing they can get it done in the trenches of the football field as well. But the Longhorns are not a mediocre opponent by any means as they surely intend to knock the Jayhawks out of the air and continue their BCS Bowl bid campaign.

Kansas comes into this weekend’s game after taking a loss against the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers last week 45-35.

Jayhawk’s QB, Todd Reesing, was 15-of-30 for 304 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 INT. Reesing also carried the ball 16 times for 35 yards and another TD. Wide receiver, Dezmon Briscoe pulled in 6 receptions for 176 yards and 1 TD. However the Jayhawk’s just couldn’t hang with the Cornhuskers as Nebraska nearly doubled the average points allowed (28.2) by the Kansas defense by tallying 45 in the win. Kansas did manage to go just above their season average for points scored per game (34.5) as they chalked up 35 but it still wasn’t enough.

The Texas Longhorns are back on track after their last second (literally) loss at Texas Tech two weeks ago. The Longhorns beat up on Baylor 45-21.

Texas QB, Colt McCoy perhaps replenished his Heisman Trophy bid by tossing 5 TDs for 300 yards on 26-of-37 passing. McCoy once again tied a school record for touchdowns in a game. WR Jordan Shipley has scored at least 1 TD in all of this season’s 10 games. Shipley finished with 6 receptions, 81 yards and the 1 TD. WR Quan Cosby had 8 catches for 111 yards and 2 TDs.

McCoy is clearly one of the Nation’s best quarterbacks as he is always a threat given his calm, patient approach to the game- this will be a challenge for Kansas who already gives up nearly 276 yards passing per game. McCoy has now gone over 300 yards in four games this season and eight in his career at Texas.

Texas is playing with the urgency of a team who knows they let one slip away in Lubbock, much like the USC Trojans who have been on a terror since they had the “gut check” in a loss early on to Oregon State. There are a number of one loss teams who are very dangerous and Texas is definitely one of these teams! Mack Brown will be the first to tell you that his boys will be ready to go this weekend.

The Jayhawks are 3-1 ATS at home this year, and 0-3 as the non-favorite, but also 3-0 O/U as the dog.

Texas is 8-1 as the favorite, 6-3 ATS on the road, and 4-4 as the favorite on the total. Most sportsbooks have the Longhorns by 13. The total on this game is not yet available, but it should be out by Tuesday afternoon.

Both of these teams like to pass the ball and have been successful with it, and they can both score quickly. The Longhorns average 44.3 points per game and their key is the play of McCoy- if he’s on, they will be tough to contain. Defensively, both squads give up a lot through the air; close to 275 yards each. The secondary for both sides will be a factor in this QB showdown between Reesing and McCoy.
