Odds To Win The SEC Championship

Pre season #1 Georgia are the favorite based on odds to win the stacked SEC this year. The Bulldogs are loaded at every position and their defense is scary, especially their front line as last year they gave up only 3.3 yards per carry and led the conference with 42 sacks. Their secondary is also great, especially with lock-down CB Asher Allen. QB Matthew Stafford (2,523 yards, 19 TD's) and Heisman candidate RB Knowshon Moreno (1,334 yards, 14 TD's), whois one of the better backs in the nation, are the main guys on offense. The Bulldogs are the team to beat in the SEC and have the talent to play for the National Title.

Auburn (+250) and Florida (+250) are the two teams that have the best chance to challenge Georgia for the SEC title. Florida has all-everything Heisman winner QB Tim Tebow (3,286 yards, 32 TD's) who will be killing opposing defenses and his main target is another Heisman candidate in WR Percy Harvin, who can take it to the house every time he touches the ball. The Gators secondary needs to improve, as in 2007 they gave up 258 passing yards per game. The Gators are loaded and young and this may not be their year, but you never know. Auburn has athletic QB Kodi Burns and he has a trio of solid receivers. Auburn is set at RB as they feature Ben Tate (903 yards, 8 TD's) Brad Lester (530 yards, 3 TD's) and Mario Fannin (448 yards, 5 TD's), who should all contribute. The Tigers defense ranked 6th nationally last year and may be even better this year. They are tough against the pass and the run. If they get solid play form the QB position they have a good chance to win the SEC.

LSU (+400) and Alabama (+650) are also in the mix, but both have question marks. LSU lost 10 starters, but their QB situation is not settled. They have strong WR's, but who will get them the ball? They also have a new face to the running game with RB Richard Murphy. The Tigers D is still strong, but not like last year with Glenn Dorsey creating havoc all over the field. Their secondary is so-so and even though the Tigers have a cupcake non-conference schedule they still play Florida and Auburn on the road. Alabama has the QB with Parker Wilson (2,846 yards, 18 TD's), their RB is solid in Terry Grant (891 yards, 8 TD's), and they have talent at the WR position, but the D of the Crimson Tide is suspect. They are young and inexperienced on the defensive side of the ball, which is not good with the likes of Georgia and Florida in the conference. The Crimson Tide also have one of the tougher schedules in the SEC, as they play Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, and Auburn.

Tennessee (+800) needs QB Jonathon Crompton to play well if the Volunteers are going anywhere this season. He will be playing behind an O line that only gave up 4 sacks in 2007. RB Arian Foster (1,193 yards, 12 TD's) is one of the better backs in the SEC and he also caught 39 passes last year. Their defense is their weakness, as they lost several players, especially last years leading tackler Jerod Mayo. If Crompton plays well the Vols may surprise some teams this year.

South Carolina (+1200) is unsettled at the QB position, but they have one of the better WR's in the conference in Kenny McKinley (77 rec, 9 TD's). Mike Davis (518 yards, 5 TD's) is the main man at RB, but the Gamecocks O line needs to improve, as they gave up 31 sacks last year. The strength of the Gamecocks is their D, especially up front. The Gamecocks will have to have a strong start, as they finish their season against Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida and Clemson.

Arkansas +5000, Kentucky +4000, Mississippi +6500, Mississippi State +3000, Vanderbilt +5000 have no chance to compete for the SEC title this year, but may upset some teams and Arkansas, Kentucky, and Mississippi State have the talent to play in a big Bowl game.
