The San Diego Chargers come into the AFC Championship game after beating the Indianapolis Colts in a major upset last week 28-24. The Patriots kept on rolling to this game with a 31-20 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Most people had predicted that the Colts would be playing the Patriots for the right to go to the Super Bowl but the Chargers stepped up and now will try to knock the Pats off their high pedestal. The Chargers are led by QB Phillip Rivers, who against the Colts was 14/19 for 264 yards with 3 TD and 1 INT. In that game the Chargers rushed for 99 yards averaging 3.3 yards per rush. On defense the Chargers held the Colts to only 44 yards rushing (2.4 yards per rush) but gave up 402 yards passing with 3 TD and 2 INT. QB Tom Brady, who against the Jaguars was almost perfect going 26/28 for 258 yards with 3 TD, leads the Patriots. The Patriots rushed for 145 yards against the Jags averaging 5.0 yards per rush. On defense the Patriots held the Jags to only 80 yards rushing (3.6 yards per rush) but gave up 278 yards passing with 2 TD and 1 INT.

Even though the Chargers shocked the Colts last week they are banged up, as their 3 top offensive threats Rivers, LeDanian Tomlinson, and Antonio Gates are hurting. They will all, probably, play but it will not matter, as the Patriots have too many weapons. Even if you put the only other undefeated team, the 72 Dolphins, up against the Patriots they would also be a 14 point underdog. The Chargers hope their defense can contain Brady and company but it won't happen this Sunday in New England, as the Patriots will score a lot of points and easily cover the spread.
