Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers Spread Pick
Opening Line: Packers -1
Philadelphia routed Oakland 49-20 last Sunday. Green Bay lost more than a game in a 27-20 loss to Chicago on Monday night.
QB Nick Foles tied an NFL record with seven TD passes last week. His play greatly improved from his previous start vs. Dallas and he now sports a sparkling 13-0 TD/INT ratio. Green Bay yields 266 passing yards per game and could have trouble in this encounter. WR DeSean Jackson is having a great season (50-823-6) and WR Riley Cooper's numbers are way up with Foles under center. He was 5-139-3 last week. RB LeSean McCoy is a true dual threat out of the backfield. The Packers' run defense has shown some big improvement over the past few weeks but they will be tested by McCoy. He's averaging 4.6 ypc and doesn't need a huge hole to break a long run. OLB Clay Matthews (check status) may be back for this game and he would help the run and pass defense.
Green Bay caught a glimpse on Monday of what their offense would be like without QB Aaron Rodgers and it wasn't pretty. Rodgers is out 4-6 weeks with a broken collarbone and is replaced by veteran journeyman QB Seneca Wallace. He wasn't effective vs. Chicago (11-19, 114 yards, 1 pick) and one week of practice probably won't improve things. The Eagles give up 322 passing yards per game but catch a huge break this week. WR James Jones is expected back for Green Bay but TE Jermichael Finley is out for the year. Rookie RB Eddie Lacy ran for 150 yards vs. Chicago but look for Philadelphia to stack the line against him. Lacy is more of a power back than a breakaway threat, so the Eagles can gamble a bit in their run defense. Wallace was sacked four times last week as the O-line continues to have problems in pass protection.
ATS Game Pick
Without Rodgers, Green Bay is a totally different team. With little threat of the pass, Philadelphia can concentrate on containing Lacy. Offensively, the Eagles have shown they can score in bunches and have weapons on the ground and through the air. They are also 9-3 ATS in their last 12 encounters with the Packers and with a spread a non-factor, we'll side with the visitor in this one.
