Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys Spread Pick
Opening Line: Philadelphia -6.5
Philadelphia bounced back from a poor outing the week before to thrash Chicago 54-11 on Sunday night. Dallas battled back from a nine-point deficit with nine minutes left last week to upend Washington 24-23. The Cowboys won the Week 7 matchup 17-3.
The Eagles are 6-1 SU in their last seven games thanks largely to an offense that ranks 2nd in the NFL in scoring and yardage. Dallas ranks 31st in pass defense and 32nd in points allowed. QB Nick Foles was very shaky in the first meeting but has shown huge improvement since that game. His 118.8 passer rating leads the NFL and he has a sparkling 25-2 TD/INT ratio. While WR DeSean Jackson is the clear No.1 target (79-1,304-9), Foles has done a great job of spreading the ball around and he should find open receivers all day against this Tampa 2 defense that never makes adjustments. RB LeSean McCoy had a rough outing as well in the earlier game but leads the NFL in rushing and yards from scrimmage. He remains the focal point of the offense and expect him to do well against a defense that yields 4.8 ypc. The Cowboys pass rush has disappeared in recent weeks and if Foles has time, he should pick this defense apart.
Dallas will be starting QB Kyle Orton under center as QB Tony Romo is out with a bad back. Orton is 35-34 as a starter in his career but is perhaps best known as the player QB Tim Tebow replaced in Denver. He has some talented players to throw to and will be facing one of the worst pass defenses (statistically) in the league. WRs Dez Bryant, Cole Beasley and rookie Terrance Williams combined to post big numbers in Week 7 and Philly has to do a better job of covering the wideouts than they did in the first encounter. The Eagles have amped up their pass rush of late and look for them to try to attack Orton with different blitz packages as this will be his first start in quite some time. RB DeMarco Murray is the first Cowboys RB to top 1,000 yards in seven years but the Eagles have a decent run defense and he won't find lots of running room against this front seven. Philadelphia's defense has held 10 of their last 11 opponents to 21 points or less and has peaked at the right time.
ATS Game Pick
The Eagles are 6-1 in their last seven while averaging 34.6 points and surrendering 21.3. Dallas is 4-3 in their last seven, scoring 27 points per game and allowing 31.7. This may seem like a big number for a divisional road favorite but we like the Eagles here. Romo was 1-6 SU in elimination games and look for the Cowboys to play nervous. Philly has played very loose over the past few months and despite some flaws, have played very well. We really like the Foles-Dallas defense matchup and think he can exploit them with several different receivers.
