The Rose is usually a great place to see to a college football game but the way the UCLA bruins have been playing this year it might just be a nice place to work on your tan. The Bruins only real magic this season was a upset victory in the Rose Bowl over Tennessee in the opening game. This weekend the Bruins welcome the Oregon State Beavers who are at the top of the PAC-10 with Cal and USC as they all share one loss each in league. Oregon State is also one win away from becoming eligible for a bowl game. The Bruins could play the part of spoiler, at least for this week anyway.

Oregon State comes into the Rose Bowl after beating Arizona State last week 27-25. The Beavers once again were led by the Rodgers brothers, James and Jacquizz. Freshman running back Jacquizz Rodgers rushed for 133 yards on 30 carries while his big brother James, pulled in 8 receptions for 102 yards.

Beavers back up QB, Sean Canfield entered the game after starter Lyle Moevao left in the second quarter with a sore right shoulder. Canfield was productive as he threw for 218 yards, 2 TD's and 1 INT. The Beavers are averaging 33.6 points per game and giving up 23.9 to their opponents. It was OSU's seventh straight victory at home (Reser Stadium).

UCLA is trying to recover after a big beating at the hands of California last week in Berkeley 41-20. The Bruins were in the game at halftime with the score 17-10 in favor of Cal, but in the second half it was all Golden Bears as they out scored the Bruins 24-7 in the fourth quarter to turn the contest into a route.

The Bruins struggled offensively especially with the running game as they only managed to put up a total of 16 yards rushing! Wow, that's not going to get it done at any level. Bruin QB Kevin Craft threw for 206 yards but had 0 TDs and 4 interceptions.

UCLA is weak on both sides of the ball as they only put up 20 points per game while allowing nearly 31 points to their opponents. Between the turnovers (4) and penalties, 10 for 74 yards, the Bruins need to get back to the basics and crawl before they walk-so to speak. They will have a tough time stopping the Beavers and the Rodgers brothers this weekend.

The Oregon State Beavers are one of my favorite teams to watch as they have so much energy especially from freshman, and PAC-10 rushing leader Jacquizz Rodgers. He is simply a firecracker when he carries the ball, and defenses can't seem to figure him out.

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel has taken some heat from different writers regarding his back to back timeouts after each of the Golden Bear's kneeldowns with seconds remaining in the game thus making them call running plays. It could have been frustration on his part or maybe he was trying to exploit something- who knows why coaches do some things but the Bruins will be in for another tough game Saturday.
