New York Giants vs. San Francisco 49ers Betting Pick
Betting Odds
Opening Line: 49ers -5
Over/Under: 44.5
Time: 4:25 PM EST Sunday October 14, 2012 on FOX
This game, which may be the marquee match up this weekend, is a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship Game that the Giants won in OT. The 49ers (4-1) have been dominant in the last 2 games on both sides of the ball scoring 79 points and only giving up 3. In their last game they set a franchise record with 621 yards of offense and that has to be a worry for a Giants’ team that did win their last game, but gave up 27 points to the weak Browns.
The Giants are 2-2-1 ATS with an O/U record of 2-3 and the 49ers are 4-1 ATS with an O/U record of 2-2-1.
In their last games the Giants beat the Cleveland Browns 41-27 and the 49ers crushed the Buffalo Bills 45-3.
Alex Smith passed for over 300 yards with 3 TD and 0 INT in the win over the Bills with Michael Crabtree and Vernon Davis each having more than 100 receiving yards. Yeah, the Bills have a bad pass defense, but the Giants only rank 22nd in the league and they did not defend the pass against the winless Browns last week. After leading the league in sacks last season the Giants only have 8 so far this season.
Frank Gore rushed for 106 yards averaging a solid 7.6 yards per carry last week and will be facing the Giants’ run defense that ranks 16th in the league.
Eli Manning is having another great season leading the Giants and their 4th ranked passing offense and Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks may be the best young WR duo in the NFL. The 49ers shut down the pass last week and if they can keep Manning from having a big game they should come out with a W. The 49ers pass defense ranks 2nd in the league and they have played great in the last couple of games.
Unlike most of this season, as well as last season, the Giants got a good game from the rushing offense in their last game with Ahmad Bradshaw blowing up for 200 yards on the ground last week against Cleveland. He will have a tougher task in this game facing a 49ers run defense, which ranks 7th in the league, and totally contained C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson in the beat down against Buffalo last week.
