Record: 17-14-0
Washington Redskins at San Diego Chargers
Line: Chargers -4
Washington suffered their second-straight embarrassing home loss to a divisional rival falling 17-0 to Dallas last Sunday. San Diego won their 10th-straight game with a convincing 42-17 win at Tennessee last Thursday.
The Redskins' offense has been in neutral for most of the season and it doesn't figure to get easier this week. They face a defense that has allowed 24 points or less to every opponent during their winning streak. Washington doesn't run the ball very well as injuries have really taken a toll on the backfield. QB Jason Campbell likes the short passing game but has been sacked 44 times, fumbled 12 times (3 lost) and thrown 15 interceptions. The O-line doesn't pass-protect very well and the receivers lack deep speed. Look for the Chargers to contain the run and pin their ears back in obvious passing situations. Campbell has never responded well to pressure and expect more mistakes this week.
San Diego QB Philip Rivers is having another great season but he may not play the whole game. Still, expect him to play at least half the game. Washington has a decent pass rush (DE Andre Carter and OLB Brian Orakpo have 11 sacks each) and a solid secondary. However, Rivers has shown he can make plays against any defense and he has good weapons at his disposal. Backup QB Billy Volek figures to see action and he could start for a handful of teams. San Diego will also want to establish the run and backup RB Darren Sproles is very shifty and very dangerous out of the backfield as a receiver. The team also hopes to have starting C Nick Hardwick (check status) back for this game and that can only help the O-line.
The Chargers have won 18-straight games in December, a league record they are proud of. Unlike Indianapolis, don't look for San Diego to take a loss on purpose. They will want to stay sharp as they have a bye next week. Also, they have productive backups that will want to show they can play as well. HC Norv Turner will also want to win against the team he coached for seven seasons. Washington didn't put up much fight against two hated rivals in their last two games and a trip to the West Coast won't inspire them either.

Baltimore Ravens at Oakland Raiders
Line: Ravens -10.5
Baltimore lost to Pittsburgh in an important game last week as mistakes killed them in a 23-20 loss. Oakland followed up another good performance with a dud as they crashed 23-9 at Cleveland last Sunday.
The Ravens will want to run the ball for most of the game to take advantage of the weak (150 yards-per-game) run defense of the Raiders. That means a lot of RB Ray Rice who averages 5.3 yards-per-carry. Oakland knows this and expect them to concentrate on Rice first before the passing game. QB Joe Flacco has endured a lot of pressure lately as LT Jared Gaither (check status) has missed the last three games. The Raiders can bring pressure off the edge and should be able to force some quick throws. Baltimore's receivers lack deep speed but TE Todd Heap has re-emerged in recent weeks and good TEs always give the Raiders trouble.
Oakland's offense is predicated on who starts under center. If QB Bruce Gradkowski (check status) can go, he gives the team its best chance to win. IF QBs Charlie Frye or JaMarcus Russell starts, look for the ground game to be the key. RB Michael Bush has been the main ballcarrier in recent weeks and owns a 5.1 yards-per-carry average, better than a full yard over his two backfield mates. The Raiders have speed at wideout and could give the secondary trouble, especially if FS Ed Reed (check status) can't go. Baltimore's pass rush hasn't been very good in the second half of the season so whoever starts at QB should have time to make plays.
The Ravens are in a win-and-in situation but mistakes have really hurt them in several losses. They commit a lot of penalties (30th in NFL) and costly dropped passes have also hurt them in close defeats. Oakland has battled San Diego (twice), Denver (once), Philadelphia, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh very tough and won several of those games. They are currently on a bad game, good game streak over the past seven weeks and are primed for a good game. The defense tends to play much better against solid teams and the Ravens would qualify as a solid team. This is also a very high number and we can see the Raiders putting up a good fight against another quality opponent.
