Green Bay Packers (9-1) -3.5 at Detroit Lions (6-4)

This Thanksgiving the Detroit Lions have their annual Turkey game hosting the hot Green Bay Packers. If the Lions have any hopes of catching the Packers in the NFC North they have to win this game. Last week the Lions lost a tough game to the New York Giant 16-10 while the Packers continued to roll defeating the Carolina Panthers 31-17. There are many teams around the .500 mark in the NFC and are fighting to get into the playoffs. This is a big game for the Lions and they can get a head up in the NFC Wild Card race with a victory, which they would be very thankful for. The Packers are running away with the division and can pretty much lock it up if they beat the Lions. This game will probably be a shootout and fun to watch, as each team has a weak rushing game, neither having a Running back in the top 40 in yards in the NFL, and will rely on the passing game.

The Lions and their 14th ranked offense is led by QB John Kitna (2673 yds 13 TD 11 TD), who has played well this and has had to carry the offensive load as Detroit has a weak running game. The Lions rushing attack, if you can call it an attack, is led by Kevin Jones (364 yds 5 TD), who will have to play a great game to keep the Packers D from only focusing on the passing game. Kitna's main targets are Roy Williams (55 rec 719 yds 5 TD) and Shaun McDonald (51 rec 632 yds 4 TD). If this game becomes a shootout, and it may, these guys will have to carry a big load. The Lions are ranked 24th on defense and are especially weak against the pass, which does not bode well with a guy named Favre coming to town. The Lion are led on D by Linebackers Ernie Sims (4th in NFL 91 tackles) and Paris Lenon (78 tackles) and Defensive End Dewayne White (5.5 sacks). The secondary of the Lions is weak and has to play a great game to have any chance this Thanksgiving.

The Packers and their 4th ranked offense are led by QB Brett Favre (2975 yds 19 TD 8 INT), who is playing like he did when he was the best in the game a few years back. Where the Packers are weak is in the rushing attack as they are ranked 30th in the NFL. Their rushing attack is led by Ryan Grant (393 yds 1 TD), who will have to pick up some yards so the front line of the Lions doesn't blitz Favre all day long. Favre's main targets are Donald Driver (53 rec 685 yds) and Greg Jennings (34 rec 565 yds 7 TD). Green Bay is ranked 12th on D and is led by Linebackers Nick Barnett (85 tackles) and AJ Hawk (67 tackles), Defensive End Aaron Kampman (9 sacks) and Cornerback Charles Woodson (4 INT). Green Bay plays good team defense and tackles well but their secondary is ranked 19th against the pass and needs to have good coverage as they will be thrown at often.

This game will be a fun one to watch as it could, and probably will, be a high scoring shootout with one of the best gunslingers in Brett Favre. Both teams can score but Green Bay has the edge on defense. Sit back relax, let that turkey digest, and watch the Packers march closer towards the NFC North title beating the Lions by at least a touchdown and covering the spread.
