Donovan Mcnabb silenced his doubters last week when the Eagles trampled the Arizona Cardinals 48-20. A week after being benched for the first time in his NFL career, McNabb came back to throw for 260 yards, 4 touchdowns, and zero interceptions. McNabb perhaps put the Eagles frustrations for the star quarterback to rest, or at least for a week that is. Philadelphia now finds their hands full this week when they take on the defending Super Bowl Champs and 11-1 New York Giants. If the Eagles plan to score the upset, McNabb will have to play big again this Sunday.

The Giants are winners of 7 straight games and find themselves pacing to clinch the NFC East. In those 7 straight wins, the Giants have won 6 of those games by a touchdown or more. The one game that was close was a 36-31 hard fought victory of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Giants expect another hard fought game this weekend as many of the NFC East match-ups turn out to be. New York is fresh off a 23-7 victory over the Washington Redskins last week. Star WR Plexico Burress suffered a gunshot to the leg after a pistol he was carrying went off and struck the Giants star in the leg. Burress was already out this weekend with a hamstring injury but could miss the rest of the season facing felony concealed weapons chargers. If that happens, it would be a big blow to the Giants offense.

Philadelphia’s victory last week marked their first win dating back to November 2nd against the Seattle Seahawks. The Eagles surprisingly dominated the Cardinals last week in a game where Donovan McNabb looked superb. McNabb ranks 4th in the NFL in passing yards racking up 3030 yards this season. McNabb has also thrown 18 touchdowns on the season as well. The problem comes in that McNabb is only completing 58% of his passes along with 10 interceptions. McNabb’s interceptions have come in some really bad points of the game that could have turned a loss into a win. The Eagles hope their star QB is in full form this Sunday when they try and upset the Giants.

Sportsbook.com has opened the betting line favoring the New York Giants by 9 points over the Eagles. The over/under for the contest has been posted at a mark of 44.5 for the contest. Large majority of the early betting public likes the over total in this game and the over/under total could slide a few points up as the week progresses. ML numbers have New York at -290 and Philadelphia holding at +240.

The New York offense ranks first in scoring offense averaging slightly under 30 points per game. The Giants also rank first in rushing offense averaging 158 yards per game on the ground. The New York offense ranks 5th in the NFL in total yards racking up 370 yards per game. As good as the New York offense has been, they have been complimented equally through the stellar play of their defense. The Giants defense ranks 3rd in the NFL in total defense holding teams to 280 yards per game of total offense. There are not many weak links in this defense but perhaps the best way to attack the Giants is through the air. Look for the Philadelphia passing attack will try to test the New York secondary this weekend.

Philadelphia has been solid on both sides of the football despite what one may think when looking at their record. The Eagles rank in the top 10 in every major offensive and defensive category. Offensively, Philadelphia has scored 26 points per game while racking up 356 yards of total offense. The Philly defense has been solid in every aspect of the game only allowing 20 points per contest. The Eagles defense only allows 286 yards per game of total offense while their rush defense ranks 8th in the NFL holding opposing offenses to 93 yards per game on the ground. The Eagles defense will be under a hard task slowing down Michael Turner and the Giants rush offense.

Betting Trends…
Philadelphia is 9-3 in their last 12 games while playing on the road, but only 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games ATS when playing the Giants. The Eagles have reached the over total in 8 of their last 11 games on the road as well. New York has gone 5-0 ATS in their last 5 outings while going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games at home in the Meadowlands.

Predictem Pick:
This game has historically been low-scored in the 2nd match of the season when the temperature drops. I’m thinking this turns out to be what many do not expect, a defensive battle. Take the under 44.5
