FUTURE ODDS - NFC CHAMPION

The three teams from the NFC East have the best odds to win the NFC Championship this season and with good reason, as that division is the toughest in football.

The Eagles (+500), along with the Giants, have the best odds to win the NFC this season. First, they have to make the playoffs, which will not be easy in the ultra-competitive NFC East. The Eagles were busy in the off-season, as they traded for LT Jason Peters, signed QB Michael Vick, and had a great draft taking WR Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy with their first two picks. If Vick and the two high draft picks can give the Eagles some offense this season they will be dangerous. Even though there are many new offensive weapons in Philly their season still hinges on how Donovan McNabb plays and if RB Brain Westbrook comes back from ankle surgery. The loss of defensive leader Brian Dawkins may hurt the Eagles.

The Giants (+500) are loaded and they brought in many new players on defense, but finding a #1 WR is a concern. First round pick WR Hakeem Nicks has been injured in the preseason and no other WR has stepped up. Eli Manning has to have a go to target this season.

The Vikings are also at +500 and they have more of a legit shot now that Brett Favre is in the fold. Favre does not have to do it all this season, as the Vikings have a solid D, especially against the run, and they have the best young RB in the game in Adrian Peterson. First round draft pick WR Percy Harvin may blossom into a great playmaker with Favre under center. The Vikings finally have a solid QB, but chemistry and the secondary are concerns. Luckily the Vikings play a weak early season schedule until their HUGE 4th game against Green Bay.

The Bears are at +700 to win the NFC this season. New QB Jay Cutler and 2nd year RB Matt Forte lead a solid offense, but the big concern in the Windy City is the Bears' defense. Last season the Bears' defense ranked 21st and they must improve upon that. LB Brian Urlacher is now healthy and the secondary needs to play better then last season.

The Cowboys (+800) did not make many off-season moves and did not have any high draft picks. They did let TO go to Buffalo, so the locker room will probably have less tension. The Dallas' D ranked 8th last season and they should be solid again. Tony Romo has to prove he can win the big game and Roy Williams has to turn into a #1 WR with TO gone.

The Packers and Saints are both at +800 and they are both in the same boat. Each team has a solid offense, especially the Saints, but each has major concerns on defense.

The Panthers and Falcons are both at +1100. For the Panthers they need to get more consistent play from QB Jake Delhomme, who was up and down last season. The Falcons hope that 2nd year QB Matt Ryan avoids a sophomore slump. Last season the Falcons' D ranked 24th and they must play better this season.

The Redskins, Seahawks, and defending NFC Champion Cardinals are all at +1400. The Seahawks have a good team, but they have to stay healthy. At least they play in the NFC West, which is the weakest division in the NFC. The Redskins have a solid D and they landed Albert Haynesworth, but their season hinges on how QB Jason Campbell plays. The Cardinals have to play defense like they did in their Super Bowl run to have any chance to repeat as NFC Champions.
