FUTURE ODDS - AFC CHAMPION

The Patriots (+200) are the favorites to win the AFC this season. Last season the Patriots' D ranked 10th and they may be better this season, as they brought in 2 legit CB through free agency and they used 3 of their 4 2nd round draft picks on defensive players. Tom Brady is back, but he has to stay healthy, as backup insurance policy Matt Cassel is now in Kansas City. The Pats have no real legit backup, so if Brady goes down again the Pats may be in trouble.

The Chargers (+400) have looked good in the preseason and RB LeDainian Tomlinson has stated he is 100% and he may have a big season. The Chargers' offense is not the problem, but their D is. Last season the Chargers' D ranked 25th, but the return of LB Shawn Merriman may help. It also helps that the Chargers play in the AFC West, which is, by far, the weakest division in the NFL.

The Steelers (+500) return 20 of 22 starters and the offense should be solid again led by the trio of QB Ben Roethlisberger, RB Willie Parker, and WR Hines Ward. Big Ben now has two Super Bowl rings and he knows how to win the big game. The Steelers will, once again, be led by their defense, which ranked first last season.

The Colts (+600) should have no problems scoring points this season, but stopping the run is a major concern. Last season the Colts' D gave up just over 122 yards per game on the ground. They need to improve on that this season, especially if they make the playoffs. 1st round pick RB Donald Brown is a solid pass-catching RB and he should take some pressure off Peyton Manning.

The Ravens (+800) will be led by their ferocious D again and while they should be solid many of the players on D are in their 30's. 2nd year QB Joe Flacco will lead the offense, but the Ravens have a weak WR corps and they did not even take a WR in the draft even though the draft was loaded at that position. The early season schedule for the Ravens is tough, as in 3 of their first 5 games they play the Patriots, Chargers, and Vikings.

The Titans (+900) lost their defensive coordinator and their best defensive player in DT Albert Haynesworth in the off-season. However, the Titans are still solid and have a great running game. Kerry Collins is still the starting QB and Tennessee addressed their need at the WR position by drafting Kenny Britt in the 1st round and signing free agent Nate Washington. It does not help that the Titans play in the AFC South, which is the toughest division in the AFC,

The Texans (+1500) are a dark horse, but Matt Schaub has to stay healthy and their secondary needs to play better than last season when they gave up just under 214 yards per game through the air.
