NFC South Betting Preview

The NFC South is a division that is up for grabs, as the Falcons, Saints, and Panthers all have a legit shot to win the division. The Buccaneers made a lot of off-season changes and they are a big long shot to win the NFC South this season.

Here are the odds at Bodog to win the NFC South this season.

Atlanta Falcons 3.10/1
The Falcons were the surprise playoff team last season, but it will be tougher this season, as they will not sneak up on anybody and they play a killer schedule. The Falcons' offense will be solid led by QB Matt Ryan, the RB duo of Michael Turner and Jerious Norwood and WR Roddy White. They also made a major upgrade at the TE position by trading for Tony Gonzalez in the off-season. The Falcons Achilles Heel was their D last season, but they took 8 defensive players in the draft and used their 1st round pick (#8) in DT Peria Jerry, who is a defensive monster.

Carolina Panthers 3.25/1
The Panthers have to get better QB play from QB Jake Delhomme, who was up and down last season and in the playoff loss to the Cardinals he had a horrible game committing 6 turnovers. DeAngelo Williams and 2nd year RB Jonathan Stewart form a formidable backfield and even though Steve Smith is in his 30's he is still a legit WR. The Panthers have a solid secondary, but their rushing D hurt them last season. Their first 3 picks in the draft were for defensive players and they did what they HAD to do in the off-season in re-signing Julius Peppers.

New Orleans Saints 3/1
Can the Saints play any defense this season? I mean Drew Brees became only the 2nd QB in the history of the game to throw for 5,000 yards in a season and the Saints still missed the playoffs. The RB tandem of Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas is solid, but Bush is coming off an injury plagued season and he has to stay healthy. The receiving corps is top-notch and the Saints have a solid line, but the defense will determine how far the Saints go this season. They only had 28 sacks last season and their secondary was horrid. In the off-season the Saints signed CB Jabari Greer S Darren Sharper and they used their 1st round draft pick on FS Malcolm Jenkins, but there are still major question marks on their D up front.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 6.25/1
To say the Bucs had a tough off-season is a major understatement. They lost their starting QB and their head coach. They head into this season not knowing who their QB will be, as there 3 way battle at the position between 1st round pick Josh Freeman, Byron Leftwich, and Luke McCown. However, not all is bad in the Sunshine State, as they landed TE Kellen Winslow Jr. and Derrick Ward in the off-season. Their D used to be their strength, but this season it may be their weakness. The Bucs drafted DT Roy Miller and DE Kyle Moore and free agent signed OLB Angelo Crowell, but there are still many holes. 1st round draft pick Josh Freeman is the face of the future in Tampa Bay and the Bucs need that future to be now.
