Opening Line: Tigers +3.5 / Rebels -3.5

by Marasoft.com Staff
This Saturday afternoon the Mississippi Rebels host the 8th ranked LSU Tigers. LSU will not plat in the SEC Title game, but if they win this game and next week against Arkansas there is still a chance they will play in a BCS bowl game. The Rebels have won 2 in a row and they will not play in a BCS Bowl game, but if they win this game they can greatly improve upon their bowl positioning and they will probably move back into the top 25. The winner of this game will be in 2nd place in the SEC West.
Last week Mississippi beat Tennessee 42-17 and LSU beat Louisiana Tech 24-16.

The Tigers are led by QB Jordan Jefferson (1,535 yds 12 TD 4 INT) and he should start in this game after missing last week's game with a sprained ankle. Jefferson's main targets are Brandon LaFell (43 rec 560 yds 9 TD) and Terrance Toliver (42 rec 547 yds 3 TD). The Tigers' rushing attack is led by RB Charles Scott (542 yds 4 TD). The Rebels are led by one-time Heisman candidate QB Jevan Snead (1,983 yds 17 TD 14 INT) and his main targets are Shay Hodge (50 rec 810 yds 6 TD) and Dexter McCluster (31 rec 394 yds 2 TD). The Rebels' rushing attack is led by Dexter McCluster (755 yds 5 TD).
The Rebels' offense has been playing well, as in their last 2 games they are averaging 40 points per game. Jevan Snead needs to have a good game for the Rebels to win. Dexter McCluster also has to play well to take the pressure off Snead. He is the Rebels' leading rusher and 2nd leading WR. LSU has the nation's 21st ranked defense and they are only allowing an average of 185 passing yards per game. Since the LSU offense is not a high scoring one they will have to win this game with their defense. The Tigers only rank 77th in sacks this season (17) and they have to get to Snead in this game and not give him time to find his targets.
The LSU offense is only ranked 107th in the nation and their strength is running the ball. Charles Scott has to move the chains in this game. Jefferson is a decent QB, but he has an injured ankle and it may hamper him in this game. Ole Miss has the nation's 23rd ranked defense and they have 26 sacks this season. The Tigers' offensive line has to protect Jefferson and open up holes for Scott.
The Tigers are 5-11-1 ATS in their last 17 games and the Rebels are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games against the Tigers.
If the Rebels can play well on offense and make this a high scoring game they will be in great shape since the Tigers' offense does not put up a lot of points.
