Kansas City Chiefs at Tennessee Titans Betting Pick
Opening Line: Kansas City -2.5
Kansas City reached 4-0 for the first time since 2003 with a 31-7 pasting of the NY Giants last week. Tennessee improved to 3-1 with a decisive 38-13 dismantling of the NY Jets last Sunday.
The Chiefs have shown good balance offensively and look for that to continue this week. RB Jamaal Charles has totaled 289 yards on the ground and 213 through the air. The Titans have been better defending the pass than the run so look for a lot of Charles toting the rock. QB Alex Smith has been his reliable self (7-2 TD/INT ratio) but his completion pct. is only 60. He has been sacked 11 times but part of that is he refuses to throw a ball up for grabs if no one is open. WR Donnie Avery has as many receptions as No.1 wideout Dwayne Bowe but 65 more yards. If Charles can be productive on the ground, look for Kansas City to take some deep shots with Bowe and Avery.
The Titans win came at a huge cost last week as they lost QB Jake Locker to a hip injury. He has a 6-0 TD/INT ratio and is one of the main reasons the Titans haven't committed a TO yet, only the second team in the Super Bowl era (95 Rams) to do that through four games. His replacement is QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, a TO machine in his Buffalo days as a starter. WRs Nate Washington and Kendall Wright are off to good starts but they face a very good secondary here. RB Chris Johnson is averaging only 3.3 ypc and but the Chiefs are yielding 5.4 ypc. Kansas City will want to contain Johnson and force Fitzpatrick to beat them through the air. The Chiefs have 18 sacks already and should be able to pressure Fitzpatrick into mistakes. Locker was sacked nine times but his elusiveness saved himself from several others. Fitzpatrick lacks that skill set.
ATS Game Pick
Kansas City isn't particularly great at anything but they do a lot of things very well. Both teams have been good at protecting the ball and both have speedy runners. The big difference is at QB. Smith is more reliable and certainly takes better care of the ball than Fitzpatrick. The Chiefs pass rush should also be a big factor in them going 5-0 after this contest.
