Nebraska (9-3) vs. No. 24 USC (8-4)
Nebraska heads into this game without their head coach with Bo Pelini recently being fired. Not only that, but they have one more win than USC and are still 6.5 point underdogs in this Holiday Bowl. One of the reasons the Trojans are the favorites in this game, which is technically being held at a neutral site, is the fact that the game will be held in San Diego, which is just down the coast from L.A.
The Huskers will need a big game from their big gun, which is RB Ameer Abdullah. The Nebraska defense had their issues this season and their do not have much of a passing offense, so if USC can shut the Huskers RB down they should win.
USC won 3 of their last 4 games of the season and they are led by a strong passing attack. With the crowd likely in their favorite they will have some home field advantage in this game.
Nebraska was 0-3 this season facing ranked teams.
In their last games of the regular season USC beat Notre Dame 49-14 and Nebraska beat Iowa 37-34 in OT.
Nebraska is 7-4-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 7-5 and USC is 7-5 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 5-7.
The Huskers only rank 93rd in the nation in passing yards per game and Tommy Armstrong will be facing a USC pass defense that racked up 13 INT on the season. Armstrong does have a couple of solid WR's that had over 660 yards on the season, but he has to be careful with the ball facing an athletic Trojans secondary.
The big match up for this game may be USC and their 27th ranked run defense facing Abdullah. The Huskers RB rushed for over 1,500 yards this season and had 106 in the season finale against Iowa. Stopping him is key for the Trojans, as in the Huskers 3 losses on the season their star RB failed to rush for over 100 yards.
Cody Kessler passed for 3,505 yards this season with 36 TD with only 4 INT and he has a great WR in Nelson Agholor, who is a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award. He had 2 200 yard receiving games on the season and will be facing a solid Nebraska pass defense that ranks 26th in the nation.
Passing the ball is the strength of the Trojans' offense, but Javorius Allen rushed for 1,337 yards on the season. However, after rushing for at least 100 yards in 8 of his first 9 games this season he failed to do so in the last 3. Still, he will get his chances facing a Huskers run defense that only ranks 78th in the nation.
Nebraska is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games, 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, and they have an Under record of 9-2 in their last 11 neutral site games.
USC is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. win, and they have an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.
