Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins Total Pick
Opening Line: Cowboys -3
Dallas blew another big lead last week before expiring 37-36 against Green Bay. Washington was very game but a failed two-point convert at the end of the game sealed their fate in a 27-26 loss at Atlanta last Sunday. The Cowboys won the Week 6 matchup 31-16.
The Cowboys have had no problem scoring of late (95 points last three games) but late critical mistakes have doomed them. QB Tony Romo threw two picks in the last three minutes against the Packers to seal another embarrassing loss. For the season, Romo has passed for 3,602 yards and may approach 4,000 after this contest. The Redskins have been helpless on defense for most of the year and have allowed an average of 30 ppg over their current six-game losing streak. Romo has plenty of targets to throw to and TE Jason Witten should be able to find a lot of open space in the middle of the field. WR Dez Bryant will likely be matched up with DeAngelo Hall and that's a matchup he can win. RB DeMarco Murray had a big 1st half last week but was underused in the second. Washington's run defense has been good for most of the year but Murray averages 5.5 ypc.
The Redskins got a very good effort from QB Kirk Cousins last week (381 yards, 3 TD passes). He did throw two interceptions and loses a fumble but led the team to what should have been a tying score. This week he faces the league's worst pass defense and should duplicate those numbers again. What the real story with this defense is that they never make adjustments. It's as if Def. Co. Monte Kiffin thinks the players will adapt to his scheme at some point but they clearly haven't. WR Pierre Garcon is having a career year (96-1,146-4) and expect another big game from him this week. The Cowboys pass rush has all but disappeared as OLB DeMarcus Ware hasn't performed despite being called out. RB Alfred Morris won't duplicate last season's numbers but he has played well and is averaging a robust 4.8 ypc. The Cowboys haven't had much luck stopping the run either and Morris should be a big weapon in this game as well.
Over/Under Total Pick
This game features two teams that can score and two teams that can't defend. Cousins gives the Redskins the vertical passing game they didn't have with RGIII and he is likely auditioning for a new team. Romo makes mistakes but also puts up points. We foresee a high-scoring game and very few punts from these division rivals.
