Clemson Tigers vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons Point Spread
Point Spread Line: Clemson -22.5
Time: 7:30 PM EST Thursday November 6, 2014 on ESPN / WatchESPN
No. 21 Clemson (6-2) vs. Wake Forest (2-6)
Clemson lost 2 of their first 3 games of the season, both losses to ranked teams, but they have won 5 straight to get back into the ACC race. However, one of their losses came to Florida State, so they need the Seminoles to lose to have any chance to win the conference.
Wake Forest has lost 4 straight and they are 0-4 in conference play. They are not only big 22.5-point home underdogs, but they have lost 10 straight games against top 25 teams and have lost 4 straight to Clemson.
In their last games Clemson beat Syracuse 16-6 and Wake Forest lost to Boston College 23-17.
Clemson is 4-4 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 3-5 and Wake Forest is 4-4 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 1-7.
On the season Wake Forest is 2-2 at home and Clemson is 1-2 on the road.
One big question for the Tigers is will QB Deshaun Watson play? He has missed the last 2 games with a broken finger and while he was slated to return facing Georgia Tech on November 15th he was recently upgraded to doubtful for this game.
Clemson QB Cole Stoudt threw for 209 yards with a TD and 2 INT in the win over Syracuse and he has not been impressive this season, which is why Watson took over under center. The Tigers have a talented WR corps led by Mike Williams, who has 743 receiving yards and is averaging over 21 yards per catch. Wake does have a good pass defense ranking 10th in the nation.
Wayne Gallman rushed for over 100 yards in the win over Syracuse, but on the season he is only averaging 3.9 yards per carry. While the Demon Deacons have a solid pass defense the same cannot be said about their run defense, which ranks 87th in the nation and in the loss to Boston College they gave up 202 rushing yards.
Wake is led by freshman QB John Wolford, who did pass for 242 yards in the loss to Boston College, but did not pass for a TD and was picked off. In his last 4 games he has 6 INT and only 1 TD. Wake has given up the 3rd most sacks in the nation, which is not good facing a Tigersí pass rush that ranks 10th in the nation in sacks.
The Demon Deacons only rushed for a grand total of 19 yards in the Boston College loss and their 2 leading RBís each have under 150 rushing yards for the season and each is averaging under 3 yards per carry.
Wake ranks dead last in the FBS in total offense and rushing offense.
Clemson is 8-3 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game, and they have an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.
Wake Forest is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 conference games, 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games after accumulating less than 275 total yards in their previous game, and they have an Under record of 5-0 in their last 5 home games.
Clemson is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Wake Forest.
Point Spread Pick
The Demon Deacons have scored a combined 37 points in their last 4 games and it's not we would expect that to change against the Tigers who have allowed 36 in their last 4 facing in our opinion better offenses. Clemson not likely to keep the pedal to the metal the whole game with Georgia Tech on deck.
