Cincinnati Bengals vs. Washington Redskins Betting Pick
Betting Odds
Opening Line: Redskins -3.5
Over/Under: 49
Time: 1 PM EST Sunday September 23, 2012 on CBS
Both the Bengals and Redskins are 1-1 and while Washington lost their last game Cincy won, even though they were less than impressive against the weak Browns. Robert Griffin III had a solid game in the Skins’ loss, but the defense allowed a comeback. Speaking of D that is a major concern for them since they lost OLB Brian Orakpo and DE Adam Carriker to season-ending injuries last week.
The Redskins lost to the St. Louis Rams last Sunday 31-28 while the Bengals beat the Cleveland Browns 34-27.
The Redskins are 1-1 ATS with an O/U record of 2-0 and the Bengals are 0-1-1 ATS with an O/U record of 2-0.
RG3 had a solid game last week passing for over 200 yards and rushing for over 80 yards and there is a good chance that he will put up good numbers again facing a Cincy pass defense that only ranks 28th in the league and allowed Cleveland rookie to pass for over 300 yards last week.
Not only did RG3 have a good game last week, but also rookie RB Alfred Morris did as well and he will get a lot of touches in this game so the Skins can keep Bengals’ QB Andy Dalton on the sidelines. The Bengals run defense ranks 19th in the league and after playing somewhat decent in their season opener they gave up over 100 rushing yards to Cleveland rookie Trent Richardson. That is not good since the Skins had 176 rushing yards even though they lost last week.
Andy Dalton lit up the Browns last week passing for 318 yards with 3 TD and 1 INT. Andrew Hawkins and A.J. Green are a couple of solid targets and they will face a struggling Redskins’ secondary that gave up a ton of yards through the air last week.
The strength of the Redskins’ defense is defending the run, but the injuries may have an effect on that. BenJarvus Green-Ellis has been mediocre in his first 2 games for the Bengals and against the Browns he only averaged 3.6 yards per carry. If he struggles again Dalton will have to do it all on offense like he did in the win over Cleveland.
The Redskins have injury issues on defense and their pass defense has not played well, but they lead the NFC in forced turnovers (6) and they may have to gamble a bit in this game.
This game will be the home debut for RG3 since Washington’s first 2 games were on the road.
Betting TrendsThe Bengals are 1-7-3 ATS in their last 11 games, 0-3-2 ATS in their last 5 road games, and they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.
The Redskins are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. loss, and they have an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 home games.
ATS Game Pick
The Redskins are really beat up on defense and while we're not going to call for an outright upset win by the bengals, we are going to wager on them plus the points.
Take Cincinnati +3.5
