Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Texas A&M Aggies Betting Pick
Opening Line: Alabama -7.5
Time: 3:30 PM EST Saturday September 14, 2013 on CBS
In a HUGE early season game and the SEC opener for both teams the 6th ranked Texas A&M Aggies host the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama has had 2 weeks to get ready for this big game, as they had last week off. They easily beat a solid Virginia Tech team in their opener and are 7.5-point road favorites in this game.
Reigning Heisman winner Johnny Manziel has looked good in the first 2 games of the season and he will have to deal with a ferocious Alabama defense.
The Tide's lone loss last season came at home at the hands of Texas A&M 29-24.
In their last games Texas A&M beat Sam Houston State 65-28 and Alabama beat Virginia Tech 35-10.
This season Alabama is 1-0 ATS with an Over/Under record of 0-1 and Texas A&M is 1-1 ATS with an Over/Under record of 2-0.
Manziel has passed for 497 yards with 6 TD and 1 INT this season and by far his leading target is 6'5” WR Mike Evans (239 yards 2 TD). Manziel will have to get the other receivers involved against a solid Alabama secondary and on the season Evans leads the Aggies with 13 catches with the next leading target only having 3.
Manziel led the Aggies in rushing last season, but has not had to run the ball much this season with RB's Ben Malena, who is averaging 7.9 yards per carry, and Tra Carson combining to rush for 300 yards and 6 TD. The Crimson Tide played great pass D in the Virginia Tech win, but did give up 153 rushing yards.
Alabama QB A.J McCarron and T.J. Yeldon each got Heisman buzz before the season, but in the Tide's first game neither put up great numbers. Alabama did not have to on offense with Christion Jones scoring 2 TD's on a punt and kickoff return.
It is key that the Tide run the ball, as in last season's loss to Texas A&M they ran for a season low 121 yards.
Texas A&M has been great on offense, but they have given up 31 points and 28 points in their last 2 games facing a couple of teams that are far from powerhouses in Rice and Sam Houston State.
Manziel had a big game in the big upset loss to Alabama last season, but the Tide played a sloppy game with 3 turnovers.Betting Trends
