Odds To Win The ACC Title

The Clemson Tigers (+250) and the Virginia Tech Hokies (+250) are the 2 teams that odds on favorites to win the ACC in 2008. The Tigers are loaded on offense, but only have 1 returning starter on the offensive line for a team that went 9-4 last year. If their O line can gel and their defense meshes well the Tigers have not only a shot to win the ACC, but a chance to go undefeated and play for the National Championship. The Hokies (+250) played in a BCS Bowl last year, losing to Kansas, and have a solid running game. However, the Hokies lost 10 starters including 4 WR's and their starting RB. Frank Beamer's team is still loaded with talent, but the team needs to gel, as they feature many new starters. If their defense can play well they have a good shot at winning the ACC.

The Miami Hurricanes (+350) have a great defense and even though they have talent on the offensive side of the ball they have many new faces. The Hurricanes should be better then their 5-7 record last year just because of their defense alone, but if they cannot score they will once again hover around .500. The Hurricanes play one of the tougher non-conference schedules, as they play Florida and Texas A&M before ACC play begins. The Florida State Seminoles (+450) are not the national powerhouse they used to be, but they are solid and return 15 starters from a team that went 8-4 last year. They have the best defense in the ACC, but they have many question marks on offense. QB Drew Weatherford has to have a decent season for the Seminoles to content for the ACC crown.

Wake Forrest (+600) is no longer just a basketball school, as the Demon Deacons were 9-4 last year. They have a returning QB, but the loss of WR Kenny Moore to the NFL will hurt them on offense. There defense returns 9 starters and will be their strength. If their offense can play well the Demon Deacons will once again be a surprise in the ACC. North Carolina (+800) had a tough 2007, being 4-8, and 6 of their 8 losses were by 7 points or less. The Tar Heels should be the most improved team in the ACC, as they return 19 starters and a legit QB, but they do not have the talent that the top teams do in the ACC. The Tar Heels have to play good team football and score some upsets in division play to have any shot. Maryland (+1400) has a solid offensive line and a great secondary, but lost their best players on both sides of the ball. They play a tough Cal team in pre conference play and if they win that game and beat who they should in the ACC they should get a Bowl bid, but winning the ACC is a long shot.

Georgia Tech (+1200) only has 9 starters returning and feature a new coach and will have many new starters on both sides of the ball. If the Yellow Jackets can be above .500 the season will be seen as a success. Boston College (+2500) and Virginia (+5000) are the teams that will suffer the most from losing players, as the Golden Eagles lost QB Matt Ryan, both of their top RB's, several players from their offensive line, and 3 All-ACC defensive players. Virginia is rebuilding and will field a whole new team from the one that was a surprise going 9-4 in 2007. The Cavaliers lost 11 starters, their starting QB, and their best player in DE Chris Long. The Cavs still have talent, but they are also a young and inexperienced team.

If either NC State (+5000) or Duke (+10000) are .500 it will be a shock, as these two teams lack the type of talent that it takes to contend in the ACC let alone win the ACC title.
